BASICS: What are your names and any nicknames?

Roni Neymark

YOU: Tell us about you and your family.

I’m originally from Madison, WI, but I’ve lived in the Twin Cities since 1979.  I’ve been retired for over 7 years from my career as a speech-language pathologist. I love my retired life, spending time being active with pickleball, biking, bowling and taking care of my grandson.

I’m very fortunate to have 2 wonderful daughters, 2 amazing son-in-laws and an adorable almost 4 year old grandson, all who live close by.

BELONG: What does belonging to a synagogue mean to you?

My family and I were members of Bet Shalom for many years. Going to synagogue was a big part of our life, especially when my daughters were young. I also enjoyed singing in the choir for about 5 years. However, I felt less connected as my kids got older and were away at college. I decided to leave about 15 years ago, occasionally attending other synagogues.  I decided recently that I wanted to be part of a Jewish community again, and regain a religious and spiritual connection especially as I am getting older and am dealing with some life challenges.

Although my daughters and their families aren’t currently members, I am excited that they can join me for services, especially those geared to younger children.

HERE: Why did you choose Bet Shalom?

I chose to rejoin Bet Shalom after so many years because there’s a feeling of familiarity here, a few people I still know, and now I live very close as well.

I didn’t really know Rabbi Locketz before, but I had heard wonderful things about him. He and other members of the congregation I used to know have been very welcoming. I look forward to seeing familiar faces, making new acquaintances and having a renewed Jewish connection.
